Hey Guys! So, lo and behold, I am sick once again. This is getting ridiculous! My boyfriend is in college and I swear he picks up every sickness! I’m praying it doesn’t turn into bronchitis again because that really hurt my lungs. So far its just a stuffy head that feels like its going to explode. Not too bad, right? Well, since I am sick and my head hurts so much, this review is going to be on the shorter side. Sorry guys! I feel really bad about it because I was really excited about this book.
So when we left Mara Dyer, we discovered that Mara and Noah share some weird abilities that no one can explain. Mara also discovers that she can’t hide from the past, especially what happened the night that the asylum collapsed. However, no one will believe her that her past is coming back to haunt her. Instead, she’s been practically committed. The only one who believes her is Noah, but is it enough?
So I know thats a very vague explanation of the book. But it has murder, lots of plot twists, steamy moments between Mara and Noah, Jamie’s sarcasm, and a huge conspiracy. Throughout the book, you feel the conspiracy build up. This made me really get into the book. More so than the first in the series. I felt like this sequel really made up for the things that I felt were lacking in the first book. However, one of the plot twists seemed to be really predictable. I predicted it within in the first quarter of the book, so I was anticipating its reveal the entire time. However, there were even bigger plot twists at the end of the book, and there were so many questions left unanswered! The book left me hanging at the end, and made me want more. Unfortunately, the sequel doesn’t come out for a few months!
One thing that I like about this series, was the fact that I was able to relate to Mara Dyer. I’m not saying I’m crazy or anything (or am I?) But she made me feel like everyone around me thought I was crazy, but deep down in my heart I knew I wasn’t. Its one of those moments when you stand alone because no one believes you, or agrees with you, and would rather deal with the situation without you. I’m sure everyone has dealt with these kinds of things one time or another. I certainly have.
Anyways, the story was very fast paced. There were lots of events that led up to one pivotal moment in the book. The only thing that was lacking was the fact that there were some ideas explored, but they were never really explained in the end. There were little hints at them, but still no answers. I strongly believe that these questions and ideas will be resolved in the next book because it just felt as though they led to a bigger purpose.
In all, I give this a 4.5/5. Look forward to the Sequel, The Retribution of Mara Dyer out November 4th, 2014
